Nigerian Celebrities in diaspora: Osas Ighodaro


The 2014 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards was co-hosted by Osas Ighodaro, one of the cast of the soap opera, ‘Tinsel’, whose role was ‘Adanna’. Osas is one of the many Nigerian celebrities in diaspora and she rocks like rock.

Osas was born in Bronx, New York in the United States to Edo state, Nigeria indigene parents. She obtained her first degree in Broadcast Journalism with dual minor in Entrepreneurship and Theatre from Pennsylvania State University. She has a masters degree in Fine Arts from Actors Studio Drama School at Pace University. She recently got married to actor, Gbenro Ajibade who is also a cast of the soap opera, ‘Tinsel’.

Actress, television Host and Model, Osas began her career in 2005. According to her, she had a very low self esteem while growing up because she was not proud of who she was and where she came from. Her parents had to send her to a modeling school to help improve her self esteem and there she found love for performing arts.

In 2014, Osas won T.V actress of the year award for her role in Tinsel in ELOY Awards. She is the first Nigerian to win the Miss Black USA pageant. She is also the founder of ‘Joyful Joy Foundation’, aimed at raising funds and awareness for malaria and other issues affecting people in Africa.

Osas admits love for Nollywood, though she has not agreed saying a thing about having interest to act in Nollywood films. She has featured in several films and television series including: ‘The Departments’; ‘Cadillac Records’; ‘Migrations: The Collector’; ‘The Club’; ‘The Tested’; ‘Tinsel’; ‘Meet the Browns’; ‘Parallels- The Webseries’; ’12 Steps to Recovery’; ‘Conviction’ and a whole lot of others. She has also done some stage works.
